Pakistan, Russia seal key trade and energy deals at 10th intergovernmental commission
The 10th Pakistan-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation concluded successfully in Islamabad on Thursday, resulting in several key agreements and protocols across multiple sectors.
The session was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari and Russian Minister for Energy Sergie Tsiviley.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to a forward-looking partnership aimed at socio-economic development, regional stability, and enhanced connectivity.
During high-level talks, Pakistan and Russia agreed to expand bilateral trade, promote exports, and strengthen business-to-business engagement. Positive discussions were held in the energy sector, covering oil, gas, LNG, LPG, renewable energy, and hydropower projects.
The commission also reviewed progress on industrial cooperation, including the upgrade of Pakistan Steel Mills, and explored collaboration on local insulin production.
Agreements on higher education and scientific cooperation are expected to be finalised soon.
In addition, memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed to enhance media cooperation between the Associated Press of Pakistan and Russia’s Sputnik news agency, as well as to foster collaboration in meteorology and conformity assessment.
Officials from both countries expressed satisfaction over the constructive talks, emphasising the potential of these initiatives to further diversify trade, strengthen technology collaboration, and deepen long-term bilateral relations.
