Pakistan edge Bangladesh in Super Over to claim Rising Stars Asia Cup title

Match in Doha delivers dramatic finish as both sides finish level after 20 overs

Pakistan clinched the Rising Stars Asia Cup title on Sunday after defeating Bangladesh in a nail-biting Super Over finish in Doha, where both teams ended their 20 overs on identical scores.

Invited to bat first in the final at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium, Pakistan were bowled out for 125 in the allotted overs.

Their innings began disastrously, with Yasir Khan run out on the very first ball while attempting an unnecessary single.

Muhammad Faiq fell soon after with the score at just two, triggering a collapse that saw wickets tumble at regular intervals.

Saad Masood top-scored for Pakistan with 38, while Arfat Minhas and Moaaz Sadaqat contributed 25 and 23 runs, respectively.

Bangladesh’s bowling attack kept firm control throughout, with Ripon Mandal taking three wickets and Rakibul Hasan claiming two.

SM Meherob, Abdul Ghaffar Saqlain and Jishan Alam picked up one wicket each.

Chasing 126, Bangladesh also struggled to build momentum and finished on 125 for nine, dragging the match to a dramatic tie.

With the outcome to be decided in a Super Over, Pakistan held their nerves to secure the championship.

The match was ultimately decided in a Super Over, where Bangladesh batted first and managed only six runs for the loss of two wickets, setting Pakistan Shaheens a target of seven.

For Pakistan, Shaan Masood and Moaaz Sadaqat took strike in the Super Over, comfortably chasing down the target on the fourth delivery without losing a wicket to seal the title.

Earlier, Bangladesh A captain Akbar Ali won the toss and opted to bowl first β€” a decision that initially paid off as Pakistan faltered early in their innings.
