Work on the long-delayed Green Line bus project is set to resume after the federal government’s spokesperson and a Pakistan Infrastructure Development Company Limited (PIDCL) delegation met Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and addressed his concerns, officials said on Friday.

According to sources, the delegation briefed the mayor on the pending 1.8-kilometre stretch between Numaish Chowrangi and Municipal Park near Jama Cloth Market, where three new bus stations will also be built. The PIDCL team assured the mayor that construction would be completed within one year.

The mayor directed the federal team to restart work immediately and ensure timely completion, noting that the project had already faced a six-year delay.

The Green Line was first launched in 2016 but has remained incomplete due to repeated interruptions.

Sources said a final decision has been made to add three new stations to the corridor, a move aimed at improving connectivity along the central section.

The mayor and the delegation are expected to formally announce the resumption of work on Monday, officials added.
