NCCIA continues to probe Rashid Latif over online posts, alleged betting links
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is continuing its investigation into former Pakistan wicketkeeper and captain Rashid Latif after complaints were filed against him in Lahore and Islamabad over controversial social media posts and alleged links to betting networks.
According to the NCCIA spokesperson, two formal inquiries are in progress.
A complaint was lodged in Lahore on November 19 and another in Islamabad on October 25 by Syed Ali Naqvi, senior manager legal at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Officials said Latif has appeared before inquiry teams in both cities and recorded his initial statements.
He has also been provided a written questionnaire. However, he has not yet submitted his replies.
The agency earlier launched a broader investigation into the former cricketer over allegations that he maintained associations with gambling companies and made unverified accusations against the PCB, the Pakistan Super League (PSL), and several players on his YouTube channel.
Sources say Latif’s recorded statements have not satisfied investigators, prompting both inquiries to remain active.
Preliminary findings indicate that while Latif has referred to individuals linked to betting operations, he has not produced supporting evidence.
NCCIA officials maintain that if Latif’s claims prove baseless, legal proceedings may follow.
They add that some of Latif’s online material appears to rely on incomplete or misleading data, which could constitute violations of cybercrime laws.
The agency has urged Latif to respond to the questionnaire so the inquiries can move towards a conclusion.
Investigators say the scope of the probe has now been widened.
