The hands of Karachi’s Empress Market clock tower, over 135 years old, have started moving again after years of inactivity.

The clock, located in the heart of the city, was built during the British Raj to mark the coronation of Queen Victoria.

It had been operational since 1881 but had fallen silent over time.

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and young watchmaker Bilal Asif have revived the historic timepiece, now running on a modern digital and solar-powered system.

Citizens have welcomed the restoration of this historic landmark.

Mayor Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, said the Empress Market and its clock tower will be officially inaugurated soon, following renovation and beautification efforts.
