27th Constitutional Amendment set for Senate vote today
A significant session of the Senate will be held today (Monday) at 11am, with the agenda including tabling of the 27th constitutional amendment.
PPP Senator Farooq H. Naek will submit the report of the joint parliamentary committee on the 27th Constitutional Amendment bill, while Federal Law Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar will introduce the bill in the House for immediate consideration.
PM hails unity
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Sunday that the 27th Constitutional Amendment was the result of collective efforts aimed at strengthening the federation, promoting harmony among provinces, and improving governance.
He emphasised that all coalition parties fully supported the national vision, and that everyone must work together for the country’s development and prosperity.
On Sunday, the prime minister hosted a dinner at the Prime Minister’s House in honour of government and coalition senators.
The event was attended by senators and federal ministers from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), and Awami National Party (ANP).
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the occasion, thanked all senators for their support of the 27th Amendment.
He also expressed gratitude to President Asif Ali Zardari and the leaders of all coalition parties for their support.
Shehbaz Sharif noted that the milestone achievements during his government were the result of cooperation between the government and its allies, and that Pakistan’s diplomatic successes and international recognition reflect this harmony and unity.
He added that thanks to collective efforts, Pakistan has achieved significant progress, with gradual improvements in the economic situation and political stability guiding the country in the right direction.
According to sources, the prime minister requested coalition senators to vote in favour of the 27th Amendment in the Senate, and coalition parties assured him of their full support.
The Awami National Party also pledged to back the government.
Following the dinner, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited coalition senators for breakfast the next morning.
The breakfast will be held at Parliament House, where coalition members will gather to continue discussions on parliamentary business.
