At least five miners were killed and three others remain missing after a coal mine collapsed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district on Sunday.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred in the Yasta Tora Wari area of Kurram, where miners were working underground when a section of the mine suddenly caved in, trapping six workers beneath the debris.

Rescue teams managed to recover one miner alive, while five bodies have been retrieved so far.

The search for the missing three workers was still underway as a rescue operation continued with the help of heavy machinery.

Officials said all the deceased miners hailed from Shangla district and were identified as Tajullah, Zawarur Rehman, Shaukat, Nazullah, and Jan Muhammad.

Preliminary findings suggest the collapse was caused by a landslide inside the mine, leading to the fatal cave-in.

Authorities have cordoned off the site and taken precautionary measures to prevent further incidents.
