At least 1,006 people, including 275 children, have lost their lives in devastating floods across Pakistan following weeks of relentless torrential rains and flash flooding, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported on Wednesday.

Rescue and relief operations are ongoing as authorities struggle to reach affected communities and assess the full scale of destruction.

Punjab has recorded the highest death toll with 304 fatalities — 110 children, 143 men, and 51 women.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 504 people have died, including 90 children, while Sindh has reported 80 fatalities. Balochistan confirmed 30 deaths, Gilgit-Baltistan 41, Azad Jammu & Kashmir 38, and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) 9.

In addition, 1,063 people have been injured nationwide, with Punjab again the worst hit — reporting 661 injuries, including 200 children.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported 218 injuries, Sindh 87, Gilgit-Baltistan 52, AJK 37, Balochistan 5, and ICT 3.

Officials warn that the human toll reflects the widespread scale of destruction, particularly among vulnerable populations.

Relief agencies continue to mobilise resources as floodwaters submerge vast stretches of farmland, destroy homes, and displace thousands.
