7 killed in rain-related incidents in KP and Punjab
At least seven people were killed and seven others injured in various rain-related accidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab in the last 24 hours.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMA) of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday issued reports detailing the damage caused by torrential rains and flash floods in the past 24 hours.
According to the reports, a total of seven people lost their lives and seven others were injured in rain-related incidents across the two provinces.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The PDMA KP reported that five people, including one man, two women, and two children, were killed in incidents caused by relentless rainfall and flash floods in Buner, Malakand, and Mansehra districts.
A child also sustained injuries. One house was completely destroyed during these events.
The PDMA has directed local district administrations to provide relief to the affected families and ensure medical care for the injured.
The authority further warned that the rain spell is expected to continue until July 11, urging district administrations to stay on alert and implement preemptive measures.
A weather alert had already been issued to all districts, advising them to remain vigilant and take precautionary actions to mitigate the impact of the monsoon downpour.
Punjab
In Punjab, the PDMA reported two fatalities and six injuries in various districts over the past 24 hours due to rain-induced accidents.
In Rawalpindi and Gujranwala, two people — a woman and a child — were killed after dilapidated structures collapsed.
Additionally, two other houses were damaged.
Director General PDMA Punjab Irfan Ali Kathia instructed local authorities to provide the injured with the best possible medical treatment and assured that compensation would be provided to the families of the deceased as per government policy.
He also urged citizens to take precautionary measures as the second spell of monsoon rains is forecast to continue until July 10.
Citizens were advised to avoid living in weak or dilapidated buildings and refrain from unnecessary travel during bad weather.
