Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has rejected rumours regarding the removal of President Asif Ali Zardari, urging the public not to pay attention to political gossip circulating on social media.

Speaking to reporters in Sukkur on Saturday, Naqvi emphasised the importance of national unity, especially during Muharram.

“This is the first time the political leadership and the establishment are united, and that unity is making some people uncomfortable,” he said in response to a question.

“My humble request is to avoid politicising Muharram. Please ignore baseless social media claims.”

Commenting on sectarian issues, Naqvi said the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against religious hatred and incitement.

“We will not allow sectarian provocations on social media. Maintaining peace and order is our top priority,” he asserted, adding that security forces remain alert to thwart any threats, particularly from Fitna Al Hindustan.

The minister noted that 2,700 Muharram processions were being held across the country on the day, all under strict security protocols.

He praised the efforts of law enforcement agencies, especially in Sukkur, where Pakistan’s largest Ashura procession was being held.

“The credit for handling this massive event goes to the entire team,” he said, expressing confidence that all processions would conclude peacefully by the evening.

When asked about the law and order situation in Sindh’s districts of Shikarpur, Kashmore, and Kandhkot, Naqvi assured that the federal and provincial governments are fully aware and working jointly to eliminate the menace of banditry.

“Just as we have pushed back terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, we will deal with dacoits as well,” he affirmed.
