Nation pays tribute to Benazir Bhutto on her 72nd birth anniversary
The 72nd birth anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the Islamic world’s first female Prime Minister and a staunch advocate for democracy, is being commemorated today with deep respect and reverence across Pakistan.
On this occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, and other prominent political figures paid heartfelt tributes to the late leader, praising her courage, vision, and unwavering commitment to democratic values.
In his message, President Asif Ali Zardari said that Benazir Bhutto courageously resisted dictatorship and always upheld the rule of law. “Her ideals and struggle continue to serve as a guiding light for us today,” he stated.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari hailed his mother as a fearless voice of the people.
He described her as a selfless leader who championed the rights of the underprivileged, women, and oppressed communities.
Bilawal reaffirmed his commitment to carry forward Benazir Bhutto’s mission with determination and resolve.
A solemn ceremony was also held in the Sindh Assembly to mark the occasion.
Participants paid tribute to Benazir Bhutto’s political legacy, visionary leadership, and ultimate sacrifice for democracy.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, former CM Qaim Ali Shah, and PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro cut a birthday cake in her honour. The hall echoed with chants of “Happy Birthday Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.”
According to the chief minister’s spokesperson, members of the provincial assembly attended the event in full strength, recalling Benazir Bhutto’s immense contributions to Pakistan’s political history.
Speakers highlighted her pivotal role in strengthening democracy and safeguarding people’s rights, describing her courage, foresight, and principled leadership as a beacon for today’s leaders.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah paid homage by stating, “Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was more than a politician; she was an ideology. She restored democracy by sacrificing her life and became the voice of the oppressed and the hope of the helpless.”
Nationwide events, seminars, and memorial references are being organised to honour her legacy. Participants are remembering her dedication to democratic values, fearless leadership, and service to the people.
Benazir Bhutto remains a towering figure not just in Pakistan but across the Islamic world.
As the first woman to lead a Muslim-majority nation, she symbolized resistance against authoritarianism and proved the power of women’s leadership on the global stage.
