Iran shuts doors on nuclear talks, halts cooperation with IAEA
Iran has officially suspended all nuclear negotiations and stopped information sharing with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), citing recent Israeli air strikes as the reason behind the policy change.
According to sources, Iranian officials have confirmed that they will no longer cooperate with the IAEA or provide updates on nuclear materials or the security of nuclear facilities.
This move follows the cancellation of scheduled nuclear talks between Iran and the United States, which were to be held on Monday in Muscat, Oman.
Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister and chief nuclear negotiator, stated that Iran will cease notifying the IAEA of any new developments regarding its nuclear programme.
He described the decision as a direct response to Israel’s unprovoked attacks on Iranian soil.
The sixth round of US-Iran nuclear negotiations, brokered by Oman and slated for June 16 in Muscat, has also been called off.
Iranian officials termed the talks “unjustifiable,” accusing the United States of complicity in the Israeli aggression.
Israel recently launched air strikes targeting Iranian military and nuclear facilities, killing at least nine nuclear scientists and causing extensive damage.
In retaliation, Iran launched ballistic missiles and drone attacks on several cities within Israeli-occupied territories, resulting in dozens of casualties.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated that engaging in nuclear dialogue with the United States under current circumstances is “meaningless”.
He dismissed Washington’s offer for talks as a pressure tactic, rather than a genuine diplomatic initiative.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei added that Iran’s current priority is to respond to acts of aggression.
“Despite claims of diplomacy, the US has sided with Israel in targeting Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities. The US is the primary enabler of Israeli aggression, and under such conditions, participating in negotiations is pointless,” he stated.
