IPL suspended as India pays for war
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been suspended indefinitely due to heightened military tensions between India and Pakistan, which escalated following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
“We are reviewing the situation. It is evolving rapidly. Any decision will be made in consultation with government agencies and based on logistical considerations,” IPL chairman Arun Dhumal told PTI.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the league is suspended until further notice and is working closely with authorities while awaiting official guidance.
The BCCI announced the decision on Thursday after an emergency meeting with tournament officials, emphasizing that the safety of players, staff, and fans was their top priority.
Previously, the match on May 8 between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was interrupted midway because of air raid alerts in nearby Jammu and Pathankot.
Spectators were evacuated amid concerns of a potential strike, raising serious doubts about the tournament’s future.
The situation escalated on Wednesday late at night when India targeted six locations, including Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad.
Moreover, ISPR confirmed that it led to the martyrdom of 31 Pakistani civilians and injuries to 57 others.
