All educational institutions in the federal capital will remain open on Wednesday, May 8, according to an announcement from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Islamabad.

The clarification comes a day after schools were shut across the capital due to heightened tensions between Pakistan and India. A prior notification had cited security concerns as the reason behind the temporary closure of both public and private schools and colleges, though exams continued as scheduled.

Earlier, in response to the escalating situation, a high-level emergency meeting was convened under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner. Representatives from hospitals, Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, police, Special Branch, and other law enforcement agencies attended the meeting.

Participants were directed to remain fully prepared under the provisions of the War Book to tackle any emergency. A detailed coordination mechanism between the departments was also chalked out to ensure swift response.

The meeting followed an overnight attack by India that escalated tensions. The Indian aggression claimed the lives of eight Pakistani civilians and left 33 others injured. In retaliation, the Pakistan Armed Forces shot down five Indian jets and destroyed a brigade headquarters.
