President appoints Justice Ali Baqar Najafi as Supreme Court judge
Justice Ali Baqar Najafi has been appointed a judge of the Supreme Court. Following the president’s approval, the Ministry of Law has officially issued the notification of his appointment.
According to the notification, Justice Najafi’s appointment will take effect from the date he takes the oath. It was made under Articles 177(1) and 175A(8) of the Constitution.
Sources say the oath-taking ceremony will be held tomorrow, where Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi will administer the oath to Justice Najafi.
The ceremony will take place at the Supreme Court, with judges, the Attorney General, provincial Advocate Generals, and senior lawyers expected to attend.
Justice Najafi previously served as a judge of the Lahore High Court. His nomination for the Supreme Court was recommended by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan.
With his appointment, the number of judges in the Supreme Court has increased.
