Cairo: Talks between Hamas, Israel end without breakthrough
Indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel held in Cairo to broker a ceasefire in Gaza and secure the release of Israeli hostages concluded without any significant progress, according to Palestinian and Egyptian sources.
Arab media reports from Cairo state that Hamas has requested more time to respond to the proposed ceasefire framework. The group is demanding a reliable guarantee for a lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip before moving forward.
Sources revealed that Hamas remains firm in its position that any agreement must ensure a complete end to the war in Gaza. However, there are indications that Hamas may show flexibility regarding the release of hostages, suggesting a more accommodating stance.
Hamas has reportedly expressed no objection to the departure of its leaders from Gaza, provided there is a guarantee they will not be pursued or targeted. Additionally, Hamas has offered to restructure itself politically, according to Arab media outlets.

On the other hand, Israel has rejected Hamas’s key demands, including a permanent end to the war and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. Israeli officials reiterated that the war will continue until Hamas is eliminated and dismissed any proposals involving the surrender or disarmament of the group.
The lack of consensus underscores the deep divisions between the two sides and casts doubt on the near-term prospects for peace in Gaza, despite ongoing international mediation efforts.
