Lahore high court blasts police over shocking video of women dragged during Kasur raid
The Lahore High Court expressed strong displeasure over a viral video showing women being mishandled during a police raid at an alleged dance party in Kasur.
Justice Ali Zia Bajwa issued contempt of court notices to the Station House Officer (SHO) and two other police personnel involved in the incident, demanding responses at the next hearing.
During the proceedings, Justice Bajwa questioned the conduct of the police, saying, “How dare the officers pull the women by their hair and film them? What the police did is unacceptable in any civilized society.”
The court acknowledged that while women should not attend such gatherings, it does not give the police the right to publicly humiliate them and jeopardize their future.

The judge further stated that a recommendation had been made to dismiss the SHO from service and inquired about disciplinary action taken against the female constable who was seen forcibly removing the women’s hair coverings in the video.
Kasur District Police Officer (DPO) informed the court that the SHO had been suspended following an internal inquiry. He added that the event was not a private gathering but a commercial one with paid ticket entry.
The court questioned how all the accused were released if the event was commercial and illegal. In response, the DPO explained that the raid was conducted without a warrant, and the magistrate discharged the accused on legal grounds.
Punjab Prosecutor General Syed Farhad Ali Shah argued that no law in any civilized country permits suspects to be exposed in such a manner. He urged the court to impose a ban on police officers filming arrests and sharing videos on social media.

The hearing also included a discussion about the widely circulated video, which showed police officers forcibly uncovering the faces and hair of women during the arrest. The court expressed deep concern over the footage and summoned Advocate General Punjab Amjad Pervez to assist in the next hearing.
The DPO assured the court that such incidents would not be repeated in the district and that strict action would be taken against any lawbreakers within the police force.
