‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actor Eric Dane diagnosed with ALS
Drama Grey’s Anatomy actor Eric Dane has confirmed his diagnosis the neurogenerative disorder Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
In an exclusive statement with People, he asked for privacy during “during this time.”
“I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,” he said.
“I feel fortunate that I can continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of ‘Euphoria’ next week.”
Dane, 52, is married to actress Rebecca Gayheart, and they have two daughters: Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13.
He portrays Cal Jacobs in the HBO series Euphoria, with production for the show’s third season set to start on April 4.
For context, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also referred to as Motor Neurone Disease (MND) or Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a degenerative neurological disorder that attacks the nerve cells controlling voluntary muscle function.
The condition deteriorates motor neurons, causing muscle weakness, atrophy, and eventual paralysis.
ALS can impair speech, swallowing, and breathing, often leading to respiratory failure.
