Pakistanis to get Starlink satellite internet by November, says minister
Federal Minister for IT, Shaza Fatima, has announced that Starlink’s satellite internet services are anticipated to be available in Pakistan by November or December this year.
During a session of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on IT and Telecom, chaired by Aminul Haque, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) provided an update on Starlink’s licensing status. The PTA chairman stated that the Space Board has granted Starlink a temporary licence, with the full licence pending the finalization of regulatory frameworks.
Minister Shaza Fatima emphasized that there are no significant hurdles in the licensing process. She noted that satellite internet is a novel technology, necessitating thorough evaluation. A consultant has been engaged to finalize the regulations, after which Starlink will need to reapply for the licence.
The minister also revealed that a Chinese company, Shanghai Spacecom, has submitted an application for satellite internet services in Pakistan. She expressed the government’s intent to encourage multiple companies to enter the market to foster a competitive environment.

The introduction of Starlink and similar services is expected to enhance internet connectivity across Pakistan, particularly in remote and underserved regions.
