Salman Ahmad booked under PECA for anti-state propaganda
A case has been registered against renowned singer Salman Ahmad under the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) for allegedly spreading propaganda against state institutions on social media.
According to Lahore police, the FIR was filed at the Defence-A police station on behalf of the police. The complaint alleges that Salman Ahmad shared false and misleading content against national security institutions and the state through his social media account on X (formerly Twitter), where he has 265.4K followers.
The FIR further states that the singer published a hate-inciting post, which was personally seen by a police officer on duty. The post is claimed to have the potential to spread unrest and tarnish the image of state institutions.
Authorities assert that the material shared by Salman Ahmad constitutes a violation of the PECA Act, and legal proceedings have been initiated accordingly.
