Keanu Reeves returns for John Wick 5
Canadian-American film production and distribution company Lionsgate has confirmed the production of “John Wick 5,” with Keanu Reeves set to reprise his role as the iconic hitman.
The news was revealed at CinemaCon 2025, where it was also disclosed that the franchise is set to expand further with an animated prequel and a spinoff focused on the character Caine, played by martial arts legend Donnie Yen.
The animated prequel will feature Reeves lending his voice and will delve into John Wick’s notorious “Impossible Task” the night he took down all his rivals to attain freedom from the High Table.
The project will be directed by Shannon Tindle, known for “Ultraman: Rising,” with the screenplay written by Vanessa Taylor, acclaimed for her work on “The Shape of Water.”
Yen will direct and star in the standalone film “Caine,” which will follow his blind assassin character from “John Wick: Chapter 4.” Production for this spinoff is set to begin in Hong Kong later this year, continuing Caine’s journey after escaping the clutches of the High Table.
Furthermore, Ana de Armas’ film “Ballerina,” which takes place between “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” and “John Wick: Chapter 4,” is scheduled for release on June 6, 2025. De Armas has described her role as the most physically demanding of her career, requiring extensive training in combat and firearms.
