OpenAI’s latest AI image generator, GPT-4o, is transforming product promotion by enabling businesses to create high-quality marketing materials without hiring models, photographers, or graphic designers.

The tool was rolled out last week and made available to everyone for free, though with some limitations on the number of generations.

While most users were excited to turn their family photos into Studio Ghibli-style artwork, the advertising industry—where product posters and videos drive a significant portion of revenue—felt the impact.

Product owners and businesses can now design the same posters and videos at no cost or, at most, $20 for a ChatGPT Plus subscription. This shift has also raised concerns that thousands of professionals, from models and photographers to video editors and designers, could be left jobless as AI takes over traditional creative roles.

AI-driven design transformation

GPT-4o enables users to replace product images in existing posters and modify them using simple English instructions. This feature provides remarkable consistency, overcoming previous challenges in AI-generated text rendering.

Cost-effective and efficient

Businesses, especially small enterprises, can now produce professional-grade promotional materials in-house, reducing reliance on costly creative professionals. The tool also supports the generation of infographics, product mockups, and logos with precise text placement.

Impact on the creative industry

While GPT-4o democratizes design access, it also raises concerns about the evolving role of creative professionals and potential job displacement. As AI advances, industries must adapt to the changing landscape of content creation.
