Sindh announces 120-day sentence remission for prisoners on Eid

Humanitarian relief granted, but serious offenders excluded

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced a remission in sentences for prisoners on Eid al-Fitr.

According to the spokesperson, Murad Ali Shah has approved a 120-day remission for convicted prisoners in Sindh. A total of 820 prisoners will benefit from this pardon; however, it will not apply to those involved in anti-state activities.

The spokesperson further stated that the remission will also not apply to prisoners convicted of the death penalty, murder, espionage, terrorism, rape, and robbery.

The decision is made based on humanitarian considerations and within the legal framework of the Sindh Prisons & Corrections Rules 2019. The request for this remission was sent by the Inspector General of Prisons.
