Govt seeks to reduce electricity prices by Rs1.71 per unit
The federal government submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to lower electricity prices by Rs1.71 per unit across the country.
This reduction will also apply to K-Electric customers.
The federal government aims to provide further relief by increasing the tariff differential subsidy.
Subsidies will increase for three months, from April to June.
This applies to all consumers except lifeline users.
On March 6, the NEPRA announced a reduction in electricity prices of Rs3 per unit for Karachi and of Rs2.12 per unit for the rest of the country.
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) recently approved amendments to net metering regulations, reducing the buyback rate for net metering consumers to Rs10 per unit from Rs27 per unit.
