Islamabad court grants bail to Journalist Waheed Murad in cybercrime case
The District and Sessions Court in Islamabad has granted bail to journalist Waheed Murad in a cyber crime case against a surety of Rs50,000.
Following the completion of a two-day physical remand, Waheed Murad was presented in the court of Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The court ordered that Murad be sent to jail on judicial remand. Subsequently, Murad’s lawyers filed a post-arrest bail application, which was heard by Judge Abbas Shah.
During the hearing, Judge Shah inquired about the evidence collected by the FIA. Lawyer Iman Mazari informed the court that Murad had encoded statements made by Akhtar Mengal in his post, while Hadi Ali Chattha mentioned that the initial tweet referenced Mengal’s statement.
The FIA reported to the court that Mengal’s post claimed that Baloch genocide was occurring.
Eventually, the court approved Waheed Murad’s post-arrest bail against a bond of Rs50,000.
