Islamabad High Court has restored biweekly meetings for PTI founder Imran Khan, allowing visits on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with a strict prohibition on media talks post-meetings.

A larger bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar heard the petitions regarding jail meetings with Imran Khan. PTI lawyers and jail officials appeared before the court.

Superintendent Adiala Jail’s counsel, Naveed Malik, informed the court that meetings were conducted under the same SOPs until December. However, after January, Imran Khan’s status changed from under-trial to convicted, and due to security threats, meetings were limited to Tuesdays only.

Acting Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar remarked that “everyone comes with a request for jail meetings. There is no need for media talk after meetings; just meet and leave.” The court proposed taking an undertaking to prevent media talks post-meetings.

PTI’s counsel requested the restoration of two weekly meetings, which the jail superintendent opposed. Justice Dogar noted that over 100 petitions related to jail meetings had been filed, and around 98 had been disposed of. He emphasized the need for the larger bench to settle the matter conclusively.

The court ordered the restoration of meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays while mandating that no media talk would take place after these meetings. The court further directed that only individuals nominated by Imran Khan’s coordinator, Salman Akram Raja, would be allowed to meet him.
