Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Senator Afnanullah Khan has blamed former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, ex-ISI chief General Faiz Hameed, and PTI founder Imran Khan for resettling the Taliban in Pakistan in 2018.

Speaking on Aaj TV’s programme “Rubaroo” with host Shaukat Paracha, he called for a formal investigation into their decision.

He stated that PTI’s founder facilitated the return of militants to Pakistan, supporting Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s stance.

He further emphasised that the National Action Plan had effectively curbed terrorism before the Taliban resettlement.

“Our policy regarding the Taliban has failed. There is widespread resentment against us in Afghanistan. Nawaz Sharif always believed the Taliban strategy was flawed and that the Afghan government should have been formed through consultations,” Afnanullah added.

He revealed that during Imran Khan’s tenure, parliamentary members warned against the Taliban policy in a briefing, but General Bajwa and General Faiz dismissed their concerns.

“They even misbehaved with those who opposed the plan, and today we are facing the consequences,” he said.

He also dismissed any possibility of negotiations with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), stating, “TTP neither recognises Pakistan’s Constitution nor its government. How can we talk to them?”

Senior lawyer Faisal Chaudhry, meanwhile, called allegations about terrorist resettlement mere propaganda.

“There was a proposal for resettlement, but the issue of TTP cannot be resolved without involving the Taliban,” he said.

He also claimed that PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi are angry with him over a particular legal case, leading to his removal from a certain position.

Sindh Minister Nasir Hussain Shah reaffirmed the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) firm stance against terrorism, stating, “Everyone can see the current situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It’s become unsafe for travel.”

He questioned why militants were settled in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while Afghanistan also shares a border with Balochistan.

“Why weren’t they settled there?” he asked.

Shah also pointed out the link between terrorism and drug trafficking, stressing that all details of Mustafa’s murder case should be brought to light, and no one involved should be spared.

Regarding cabinet changes, he said it remains the Prime Minister’s prerogative.

“Those who have been appointed should be allowed to work,” he said, adding that Faisal Chaudhry had made significant sacrifices for his party.

Shah also criticised PTI lawyers, alleging that instead of focusing on cases, they were more interested in securing positions.

“Some PTI lawyers enjoyed the perks of power,” he concluded.
