A police remand report on the Mustafa murder case suspects, which was submitted by the police to Karachi’s anti-terrorism court earlier this week, came out on Friday.

Armaghan has repeatedly staged fainting spells during the investigation, it alleged and added that the authorities plan to interrogate a girl named ***a, who was found in connection with the case, to apprehend other accomplices.

The remand report added that another suspect Shiraz confessed to his crime during the investigation while the prime suspect was described as “cunning, crafty, and a habitual offender.”

It was noted that Armaghan “frequently changes his statements.” A video statement from Shiraz has also been recorded.

DNA from the victim Mustafa’s mother, Wajeeha, has matched, the report said and confirmed that the body belonged to the victim. Shiraz is expected to record his statement before the relevant magistrate. A special committee has been formed to investigate the suspects.

Moreover, the report mentioned that letters have been sent to senior officers for information regarding the prime suspect’s other cases. He has reportedly been running a call centre and a software house while being involved in “illegal activities.”

Special investigative team holds meeting

Meanwhile, a meeting of the special investigative team for the Mustafa murder case took place in the Defence area. CIA DIG Muqaddas Haider presided over the meeting.

The first meeting included SSP Irfan Bahadur, SSP Anil Haider, SSP Qais Khan, SP Aleena Rajper, and SSP Azhar Javed.

The team would commence investigations regarding the arrested suspect, Armaghan, and would also look into his associates and friends, sources said and added that efforts would be made to identify and arrest individuals involved in drug trafficking. Each SSP has been assigned different aspects of the investigation.

The investigative team would conduct a detailed review of all facets of the case, and the special team has been formed by Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho.

Anti-narcotics court clears deceased Mustafa from drugs case

An anti-narcotics court in Karachi has removed the name of deceased Mustafa Amir from the drug case, with the investigating officer reporting that Mustafa Amir has been murdered.

Mustafa was arrested on January 31, 2024, and his bail, along with that of Nauman, was granted on March 20, 2024. The victim had apparently appeared in court just hours before his murder.

Arrest warrants for Mustafa continued to be issued until February 22. Meanwhile, two of Mustafa’s associates, Mian Ammar Hamid and Faisal Yaqub, “are absconding.”

Prime suspect’s father visits house

Lawyer Abid Zaman and Armaghan’s father, Kamran Qureshi, visited the house in the city’s upscale area. Qureshi mentioned that he had been informed about tracing calls, to which the lawyer replied that the call tracing had not yet occurred and they had not been able to connect.

The father raised the question of whether there could be a mismatch in DNA results. The lawyer responded that any object touched in the house would yield DNA traces, regardless of who it was, as many journalists, police officers, and others had visited the home. He noted, “Today, the lawyer is also here; everyone’s DNA would likely be present.”

The lawyer further stated that Mustafa had come to the house on his own and was not abducted. He emphasised that keeping the victim in unlawful confinement was not justified and that they would need to prove his presence in the house for any claims related to the case.
