Police have claimed to have arrested two security guards of Balochistan’s political personality Shahzain Mari after they allegedly assaulted two people in Karachi’s Boat Basin area.

They were arrested after a CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media, with several users condemning the harassment and demanding justice.

They have claimed to have recovered modern firearms from the suspects. The incident reportedly occurred on February 19 at around 3am. A case has been registered.

In his video message, the victim of the assault stated that “influential individuals” attacked him and his friend while they were out for a meal. He added that a vehicle approaching from behind behaved “rudely and hit them.” The citizen said: “When will the VIP culture end in our society?”

In April 2023, police raided the residence of a political personality over his alleged involvement in a shooting at a restaurant in Karachi’s Sea View area. He was allegedly found involved in a shooting at a restaurant, where the manager was wounded in the incident.

Mari opened fire at the restaurant staff for delaying the delivery of his order, and he was apparently drunk at the time of the incident, police investigation said. Even then, the police took a security guard into custody and added that Mari was not present at the house at the time of the raid.
