Protesters continued their sit-in in Kurram’s Bagan as tribal leaders refused to vacate their area despite the government’s announcement of military operations.

Following the provincial government’s decision to evacuate four villages in Kurram, unrest has been rising in the region.

Tribal leader Haji Karim stated that the protest would continue until the affected individuals receive aid and those responsible for the firing on a convoy are arrested. Five security personnel were martyred in the attack

Meanwhile, PDMA District Coordinator Shiraz Badshah said that since the announcement of the operation, six families have already been displaced. A relief camp has been set up for the victims in the Hangu district.

Residents of Parachinar have been facing severe hardships as 3G, 4G services and travel routes have been blocked for the past five months. Moreover, deserted markets have exacerbated the public’s struggles due to the lack of food and medical facilities.

Business leader Haji Imdad shared that goods brought for Ramazan have been looted, and for the past three days, people have been forced to steal from trucks. He questioned who was responsible for this situation.

Social leader Mir Afzal Khan pointed out that the repeated looting in a specific area, combined with the government’s “silence, is suspicious.” He added that the attackers were exploiting the hardships of the “trapped population by portraying themselves as victims.”

Business leaders have urged the government to provide an “immediate relief package” for the 500,000 people trapped in the area, warning that failing to do so could lead to a major humanitarian crisis.
