Levies man martyred, two injured in attack on check post in Balochistan’s Kalat
A Levies man was martyred and two injured when unidentified men attacked a check post in Balochistan’s Kalat on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Constable Ali Nawaz Lango while the injured included Constable Ghulam Ali, son of Gul Muhammad, and Muhammad Ayub, son of Wahid Bakhsh. The assailants “fled” following a counterattack by the Levies.
The check post is located in the Togo Chappar area. The wounded have been shifted to Quetta.
A heavy contingent of Levies arrived at the site and launched a search operation to apprehend the suspects.
A Balochistan government spokesperson condemned the attack, stating that “the Levies personnel responded immediately, forcing the attackers to flee.” The spokesperson also announced that an investigation into the attack has been ordered and operations to arrest the suspects were under way.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti paid tribute to the Levies personnel sacrifice, stating that “the martyr set an example of bravery by giving his life.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also “strongly condemned” the attack, paying homage to the martyred Levies man. The prime minister stated, “Terrorists are enemies of Balochistan’s progress and stability, and their nefarious intentions will not be allowed to succeed.”
Security has been tightened in Kalat and search operations were under way to ensure the “swift apprehension” of the attackers.
