Criminal complaint filed against YouTubers Samay Raina, Apoorva Mukhija, Ranveer Allahbadia for obscene comments
A criminal complaint has been lodged against YouTubers Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, and Apoorva Mukhija at the Bandra Magistrate Court following controversial comments made on the comedy show “India’s Got Latent”, media reported.
The complaint, filed by Mumbai-based social activist Nikhil Ruparel, has alleged that Allahbadia made “highly obscene and derogatory” comments that are “offensive to societal morals.”
Ruparel stated that the comments were “grossly offensive” and requested the court to take action under various sections of The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act of 2000, including provisions concerning obscene acts and public mischief.
The complaint has prompted discussions about stricter content moderation on platforms like YouTube.
Several lawyers have criticised Allahbadia’s comments and have advocated for more “stringent guidelines” to regulate content on digital platforms, emphasizing the need to protect young audiences from inappropriate material.
