Unidentified men set cargo trucks on fire in Karachi’s Landhi, Korangi
At least four cargo trucks were set on fire by unidentified men in Karachi’s Landhi, Korangi, and Surjani Town areas on Tuesday, police said.
One truck was torched in Korangi Number 6 while two trucks were burned in Landi. Assailants managed to flee the scene.
The trucks that were set ablaze were carrying various types of goods, however, there were no reported casualties from the incident. A fire brigade vehicle arrived at the location and was engaged in extinguishing the fire. Police added that the affected trucks were en route from Quaidabad Dawood Chowrangi to Korangi Crossing.
Unidentified men also attempted to set a freight trailer on fire near Al-Karam Square, but police and citizens quickly took action to control the fire, preventing the trailer from being destroyed.
In Surjani Town, near Abdullah Mor, unknown men set a water tanker on fire. Three unidentified motorcyclists stopped the water tanker and poured petrol on it before igniting the flames, forcing the driver to jump out to save his life.
Meanwhile, DIG East Usman Ghani took “serious notice” of the incident and has directed legal action against the perpetrators. He added that “no one will be allowed to disrupt law and order” in the city and “strict measures” would be taken against those responsible for the arson.
Police officials have initiated an investigation to track down the suspects involved in the incident.
The incident comes against the backdrop of an increase in fatalities involving dumper trucks. Last week, the Sindh government decided to ban the entry of heavy vehicle into the city during the daytime.
Dumpers would only be allowed to enter the city between 11pm and 6am, according to officials.
Despite the Sindh High Court’s ban on heavy vehicles during daylight hours, the local administration had only limited restrictions on trailer entry, failing to monitor the movement of numerous dumpers transporting goods and construction materials throughout the city.

In the past 40 days alone, traffic accidents have resulted in 112 fatalities and 216 injuries, with many incidents involving dump trucks.
The recent deaths caused by dumpers on city roads sparked widespread outrage against provincial authorities and the traffic police for their inability to enforce traffic laws and the SHC’s directives concerning heavy vehicle movement.
Amidst this backlash, including criticism from opposition parties and Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, the government has decided to enforce a ban on dumper trucks during daytime hours to enhance public safety.
