The Judicial Commission of Pakistan has sought nominations for four additional judges in the Lahore High Court by February 13.

The decision was made following a meeting on February 6.

The JCP secretary has sent a letter to the commission members regarding the nomination of the four additional judges. They would be selected from among the district judges.

Earlier in the day, PTI Senator Ali Zafar Senator Ali Zafar, a JCP member, wrote a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi requesting the postponement of the commission’s meeting.

He argued that the meeting should be adjourned until the seniority issue of judges in the Islamabad High Court is resolved. He stated that recent judge transfers have altered the high court’s seniority list, “potentially impacting the judicial system.”

The letter further suggested that such transfers create the impression of an arrangement specifically designed to “influence the appeals of PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.”

If the meeting is unavoidable, “the recently transferred judges should not be considered, he wrote.” In the recent past, four Supreme Court of Pakistan judges also wrote to the CJP for postponement of the meeting.
