A Pakistani driver from a luxury transport company in Dubai has received a one-year prison sentence after being convicted of sexually assaulting a female passenger.

The incident occurred in April of last year when a Polish resident booked a ride home from a hotel in the Business Bay area.

According to records from the Dubai Criminal Court, the Pakistani driver strayed from the planned route and took the victim to a secluded and poorly lit location, where the assault took place.

The woman, whose age was not mentioned in court records, reported to investigators that she was intoxicated when she hailed a car outside a five-star hotel in Business Bay around 9 PM on the night of the incident.

After a brief drive, the driver stopped the vehicle and forced her to exit. He then took her to a sandy area where he assaulted her.

“I can’t remember everything that happened; I only recall bits and pieces,” she stated in the records. After the assault, she managed to walk to a nearby building, called another taxi, went home, and went to sleep.

The next morning, recalling parts of the incident, she contacted the police to report the assault. She was referred for a forensic medical examination, and the driver was brought in for questioning. She identified him during a lineup at the police station.

During his questioning, the driver claimed the woman could not remember her address and had no money for the fare. Forensic reports corroborated the woman’s account.

When the case went to court, the driver denied the sexual assault charge and argued that a translator was not provided during police questioning, which led to misinterpretations of his statements. Nevertheless, he was found guilty and sentenced to one year in prison, followed by deportation.
