PM Sharif inaugurates renovated Gaddafi stadium in Lahore

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the renovation was completed in a record 177 days

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the newly renovated Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore today, praising the rapid completion of the project ahead of the upcoming Champions Trophy. The ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, former PCB Chairman Najam Sethi, Zaka Ashraf, national cricket team players, and other prominent figures.

The Prime Minister presented commendation shields to officials from various departments involved in the stadium’s reconstruction. In his address, he highlighted the collaborative effort, commending the contractors, workers, and particularly PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for overseeing the project’s swift completion. He also thanked the Punjab government for its significant contribution. Sharif playfully referred to the project’s speed as “Mohsin Speed,” a nod to his own past reputation for rapid development projects.

Sharif lauded the national cricket team’s recent performances, expressing confidence in their ability to win the Champions Trophy. He emphasized the importance of a victory against India, stating that such a win would make them heroes to the entire nation. He concluded his speech with a prayer for Pakistan’s success in the tournament.

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq echoed the sentiment, praising the Pakistani cricket team and expressing hope for a Champions Trophy final in Lahore, culminating in a Pakistani victory.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi detailed the project’s timeline, noting that the stadium’s renovation was completed in a record 177 days with the help of approximately 2500 workers. He acknowledged the crucial support of the Pakistan Army, stating that the project’s timely completion would have been impossible without their assistance. Naqvi also highlighted the role of the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) in overcoming the challenges of the project.
