FIFA suspends Pakistan Football Federation over failure to accept constitutional amendments
FIFA has once again suspended the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) membership, placing a ban on Pakistani teams from participating in international competitions.
FIFA decided due to “the PFF’s failure to revise its constitution to guarantee fair and democratic elections,” which is essential for meeting its obligations in the normalisation process mandated by the federation.
“The suspension will only be lifted subject to the PFF Congress approving the version of the PFF Constitution presented by FIFA and the AFC,” said the statement.
Earlier, both FIFA and the AFC had recommended constitutional changes to the PFF, particularly regarding the electoral process. But the PFF’s elected Congress rejected such amendments, leading to the current situation.
This is not the first suspension for the PFF; FIFA previously imposed a similar ban in April 2021 due to a “power struggle involving the Ashfaq Hussain group, which occupied PFF offices.” That suspension was lifted in June 2022.
