Chief of the Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir has not received any letter from jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, sources within the security said on Tuesday.

The establishment has no interest in reading any such letter, they added.

This comes a day after PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan claimed that Khan wrote a letter to COAS Munir.

Khan’s party’s chairman Gohar Ali Khan told reporters on Monday that the ex-PM has addressed a letter to COAS Munir, expressing concerns about the “increasing disconnect” between the military and the public.

He stated that Khan outlined the reasons for this growing distance and proposed steps to bridge the gap. He also acknowledged the sacrifices made by the armed forces.

According to Gohar, the PTI founder aimed to highlight specific issues contributing to the “widening gap” between the public and the establishment. He emphasised that the “mistrust” should not exist and urged a reassessment of the policies that have led to the army facing blame for these issues.

No association with politics or any political party, DG ISPR reiterates

“This [mistrust] should not take place at all, but there are certain reasons because of which this gulf is widening. Owing to those reasons, the army is being blamed, so the policy reasons must be re-evaluated,” he quoted Khan as saying.

Sources added that there has been no correspondence from the PTI founder, nor was there any desire to engage with such a letter.

They accused the PTI of “attempting to stage another failed drama” by claiming to have sent a letter. The establishment has already clarified that if the PTI wishes to discuss any matters, it should do so with political leaders.
