Khan’s letter to army chief aims to create divide between military, people: Sanaullah
Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s letter to Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir aims to create a divide between the military and the people, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has said.
“Imran Khan’s letter could be an attempt to sow misunderstandings between the military and its command,” he said while appearing on the Geo News programme Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath on Monday.
He questioned whether the letter was being written from jail or elsewhere. “If Imran Khan wishes to engage politically, he should do so in Parliament.”
Sanaullah also addressed the issue of judges’ transfers in the Islamabad High Court, asking whether it was unconstitutional. He referenced Article 200 (transfer of high court judges) and the 26th Constitutional Amendment, stating that “if questions are to be raised, significant inquiries should also be made regarding the judges’ letters.”
Furthermore, he alleged that the previous PTI government had made every effort to block the appointments of Justices Babar Sattar and Tariq Jahangiri.
Khan’s party’s chairman Gohar Ali Khan told reporters on Monday that the ex-PM has addressed a letter to COAS Munir, expressing concerns about the “increasing disconnect” between the military and the public.

He stated that Khan outlined the reasons for this growing distance and proposed steps to bridge the gap. He also acknowledged the sacrifices made by the armed forces.
According to Gohar, the PTI founder aimed to highlight specific issues contributing to the “widening gap” between the public and the establishment. He emphasised that the “mistrust” should not exist and urged a reassessment of the policies that have led to the army facing blame for these issues.
“This [mistrust] should not take place at all, but there are certain reasons because of which this gulf is widening. Owing to those reasons, the army is being blamed, so the policy reasons must be re-evaluated,” he quoted Khan as saying.
