Islamabad policeman makes unusual announcement on kite flying
Islamabad’s Station House Officer Ashfaq Warraich has made a controversial announcement regarding a kite flying over a mosque’s loudspeaker.
“If any child is caught engaging in the activity, I will file a case against the child’s father and will beat him with shoes in the middle of the road,” he was heard in the video showing him making announcement from the mosque’s mike.
He also mentioned that they would demolish the kite flyer’s home.
The unusual measure by the Islamabad police comes after their failure to curb kite flying, which has been a concern in the area. Warraich made the announcement over the loudspeaker at a local mosque, and a video of the statement has gone viral.
While addressing parents, Warraich urged them to prevent their children from kite flying, declaring it a “dangerous game” that could result in loss of life. He emphasised the risks associated with the activity, reinforcing the need for community awareness.

Attempts are being made to obtain a response from the Islamabad police spokesperson regarding the matter.
In reaction to the police’s unusual statement, senior lawyer Sardar Abdul Razak stated that while the police can take action against violations of the law, they do not have the authority to demolish homes or physically assault individuals.
He asserted that such actions would constitute a “crime” on the part of the police officer involved. Razak noted that, in addition to disciplinary action, a case could also be filed against the officer for their conduct.
