NADRA to introduce special ID cards for disabilities and organ donors

The cards will be lifetime in duration

The federal government has approved amendments to the National Identity Card Act of 2002, introducing unique identification cards for persons with disabilities and organ donors. A spokesperson for the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) stated that this initiative aims to improve accessibility and identification for individuals with disabilities.

Disabled individuals will receive lifetime identification cards featuring a wheelchair logo. This logo will also be added to the cards of disabled children, regardless of whether they have a formal or temporary card, to facilitate easier identification.

Organ donors will also receive a special lifetime card displaying both a wheelchair logo and a symbol representing organ donation. Registration with relevant organizations will be mandatory for organ donation.

The NADRA spokesperson confirmed that these amendments will come into effect following official notification in the upcoming gazette, after which implementation will begin.

This initiative is expected to not only improve the lives of individuals with disabilities but also encourage organ donation in Pakistan.
