Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan has removed Ali Amin Gandapur from the position of provincial president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Khan has appointed Junaid Akbar as the new president of PTI KP. The party’s secretary general Salman Akram Raja has been asked to issue the notification for a new appointment.

The decision was made during Akbar’s visit to Khan in jail, which was also attended by Atif Khan and former KP Governor Shah Farman.

In a post on X, the newly elected PTI KP president expressed his gratitude to his leader, stating, “I started my political career from the presidency of my village. I am a middle-class person, and this position was earned through hard work.”

He emphasised that there was no room for factionalism within the party, asserting, “We were one, and we are one.”

Farman told the reporters outside the jail that Akbar was nominated for the provincial presidency based on Gandapur’s recommendation due to his increased responsibilities.

This came a day after he was elected unopposed as the Public Accounts Committee chairman in the National Assembly. His nomination was proposed by PML-N leader Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and supported by Senator Afnanullah from the same party.

PTI leaders, including Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, and Senate Opposition Leader Shibli Faraz also backed Akbar’s nomination.
