Sindh govt moves towards EV taxis by forming regulatory body
The Sindh government has announced plans to launch an environmentally friendly electric vehicle (EV) taxi service and establish a regulatory authority to oversee its operations. This decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Sharjeel Inam Memon.
The meeting, which included People’s Bus Service Project Director Sohaib Shafiq and other officials, focused on the launch of the EV taxi service.
According to Sharjeel Memon, the initiative aims to introduce modern transportation and encourage investment in the transport sector. A new regulatory body will be created to monitor and regulate service operations. Furthermore, a central command and control system will be developed to manage and monitor the entire system.
Memon also highlighted that the EV taxis will be equipped with intelligent transport systems and modern payment systems. He emphasized the importance of developing a robust charging network infrastructure to support the operation and growth of the service. The government is expected to implement these plans shortly.
The plan for the EV taxis was first announced by Memon last year. He said at the time that it would be a way for youth in the province to get employment.
