Donald Trump’s inauguration: Timing and how to watch in Pakistan
Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony as the 47th president of the United States will begin soon.
Aaj News and VoA will run a special transmission from 10pm Pakistan time, 5pm GMT and 12pm ET.
Here is all you need to know about the ceremony.
Date and Time:
Monday, January 20, 2025, at 12:00 pm ET (5:00 pm GMT, 4:00 am AEDT Tuesday). This coincides with Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Location:
Due to freezing weather, the inauguration ceremony and speeches will be held indoors in the US Capitol rotunda. A live viewing will be available at Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.
The Ceremony:
Trump will take the oath of office, administered by Chief Justice John Roberts. His running mate, JD Vance, will be sworn in as vice-president beforehand. The swearing-in will be followed by Trump’s inaugural address.
Weather:
The Weather Channel forecasts a high of 24°F (-4.4°C) and a low of 9°F (-13°C), with wind chill making it feel much colder. Snow is possible on Sunday.
Trump’s Inaugural Address:
Expected to cover policy initiatives such as border security, deportations, pardoning January 6th insurrectionists, and potentially executive orders on various issues (EV mandates, regulations, transgender athletes, etc.). He has also mentioned brokering peace between Russia and Ukraine.
Attendees:
A mix of tech executives (including CEOs from TikTok, Meta, Amazon, X/Tesla, and possibly Coinbase), former presidents (Obama, Biden, Clinton, and Bush), and potentially some foreign leaders (Xi Jinping, Nayib Bukele, Viktor Orbán, Javier Milei). Nancy Pelosi will not attend.
A large security presence is expected.
Performers:
Carrie Underwood and Lee Greenwood will perform at the swearing-in ceremony. Other performers include Jason Aldean, Village People, Rascal Flatts, Gavin DeGraw, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Kid Rock at various events.
