Blizzard ravages Balochistan, snowfall in northern areas

MD reports that much of the country will experience cold, dry weather

A severe blizzard has ravaged upper Balochistan, causing widespread disruption and travel chaos across the region and beyond. Heavy snowfall and rainfall have been reported in several areas, including Quetta, Chaman, Darra Kojak, Kalat, and Ziarat. Ziarat city has already accumulated three inches of snow since last night, and numerous roads have been blocked. An emergency has been declared on the N-25 Chaman-Quetta-Karachi highway.

The blizzard has also halted road clearance operations at Kojak Pass, effectively cutting off transportation between Balochistan, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Numerous vehicles are stranded as a result. Power outages have been reported across much of northern Balochistan, and torrential rain in Chaman has submerged low-lying areas.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts that the rain and snowfall will continue until tomorrow, warning of the potential for flash flooding in several cities.

Meanwhile, the PMD reports that much of the country will experience cold, dry weather. However, Karachi is experiencing a significant increase in wind chill, Punjab is shrouded in dense fog, and sections of the motorway have been closed to traffic.

Northern areas have also seen significant snowfall, blanketing mountain ranges in white. Swat’s plains are experiencing cloudy skies and dark clouds, while the surrounding mountains are covered in snow. Upper Azad Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Leepa Valley, Ganga Chotti, and Toli Pir, is experiencing a mix of rain and snow. Bagh city has also seen temperatures plummet following snowfall in the mountainous areas.
