Severe cold wave impacts nationwide

A severe cold wave has swept across the country, bringing light rain and snowfall to western Balochistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In Karachi, temperatures are expected to plummet to 9 degrees Celsius due to frigid winds, the Met Office said.

Murree has already experienced up to one inch of snowfall.

The cold snap has intensified in upper regions, including Abbottabad, Galiyat, Swat, and Mingora in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The coldest temperature recorded was minus 11 degrees Celsius in Leh, with rain also noted in Rawalakot, Kotli, and Barkhan, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said.

Dense fog continues to dominate most districts of Punjab and upper Sindh. The PMD reports that “Karachi is facing cold and dry weather, forecasting a temperature drop to 9 degrees Celsius, further increasing the chill.”

The minimum temperature recorded in Karachi on Friday was 12 degrees Celsius.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather update

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PMD has predicted cold weather with partly cloudy skies. The upper districts of the province are expected to remain severely cold.

Over the next 24 hours, rain and snowfall are anticipated in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Buner, Bajaur, Kohistan, Battagram, Torghar, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Charsadda, and Mardan, particularly in mountainous areas.

Fog is likely to blanket Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Swabi, and Dera Ismail Khan in the early morning and evening.

Peshawar has recorded a minimum temperature of 2 degrees Celsius, with a maximum forecast of 21 degrees Celsius.

The lowest temperatures noted were minus 4 degrees in Kalam, minus 2 degrees in Dir, Malam Jabba, and Parachinar, and minus 1 degree in Chitral, Kakol, and Drosh.

According to the Environmental Department, air pollution levels have risen in Peshawar, resulting in an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 242. The AQI recorded on GT Road was 191, 242 in Hayatabad, 275 on Warsak Road, and 195 on Charsadda Road.

Balochistan

The Mete Office indicated that most regions in Balochistan would experience dry and cold weather, with severe cold expected in mountainous areas during the morning and night.

Light rain and snowfall are forecasted overnight in Chagai, Nokundi, Dalbandin, Quetta, Ziarat, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, and Qilla Saifullah.

Minimum temperatures recorded include minus 4 degrees in Quetta, minus 6 in Kalat, minus 8 in Ziarat, and minus 2 in Zhob.

Other regions showed minimum temperatures of 6 degrees in Sibi, 12 in Turbat, 7 in Nokundi, 2 in Chaman, 9 in Gwadar, and 10 degrees in Jiwan.
