The main road blockade in Kurram’s Parachinar entered its 100th day on Monday, resulting in severe shortages of essential goods and forcing local residents into dire conditions.

Another child died on Sunday because of the lack of medical care, Tehsil Chairman Agha Mazmil Hussain said.

This comes as a convoy of 40 vehicles still awaits roads opening to travel from Thall to Parachinar. At least 500 trucks are “necessary” to alleviate the challenges faced by the people of Upper Kurram, according to the business community.

Limited traffic resumed on the key road following recent relief efforts in Kurram. The district administration stated that a convoy of 35 vehicles reached on Wednesday while 10 vehicles were allocated for flood-affected individuals.

At least 128 children have so far lost their lives in Parachinar over the past three months due to resource shortages, former federal minister Sajid Hussain Turi said.
