The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has appointed former Pakistan captain Younis Khan as the mentor for its national cricket team in preparation for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, with Younis set to join the team before the tournament, which will take place in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9, 2025.

The spokesman for the ACB, Sayeed Naseem Sadat, stated, “ACB has assigned former top-order Pakistani player Younis Khan as Mentor for Champions Trophy 2025. He will join the team before the event starts in Pakistan.”

Known for leading Pakistan to victory in the 2009 ICC T20 World Cup, Younis has held various coaching roles, including a position with Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and as head coach for the Bangla Tigers in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

Khan has amassed a remarkable total of 10,099 runs in 118 Test matches, previously served as Afghanistan’s batting coach in 2022.

He achieved the distinction of being the world number one batsman in the ICC Test rankings during his illustrious career. Additionally, his leadership skills shone brightly when he captained Pakistan to its inaugural T20 World Cup victory in 2009.
