Bushra Bibi, the wife of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, has begun to intervene not only in the party’s political matters but also in its legal affairs, a private news channel report claimed on Saturday.

She has made changes to the legal teams, including the lawyers associated with the Insaf Lawyers Forum, it added.

Many ministers have claimed that there were conflicts within the PTI over the leadership. They claimed that Khan’s party was divided into different groups because of conflicts of interest of the former first lady and his sisters’. According to the ministers, Bibi had a big influence on PTI’s politics. But the party has denied such claims.

Bibi’s sister Maryam Riaz Wattoo also clarified the former first lady was only advocating for her husband’s release and not taking part in politics after the November 26 protest.

“Bibi is not the leading party,” she said while appearing on Spotlight with Munizae Jahangir which was aired on Aaj News on December 2. When asked what will be her role after the rally, she said the PTI founder had trusted her wife with the responsibility after the workers’ trust deficit in leaders.

“Moving forward, she is waiting to meet Khan sb and she will do whatever Khan says. She will work for her husband’s release. I knew she was temporarily freed. She is not politicising. Anyone whose family members are in trouble will do their best. We cannot sit and watch things happening. It is her duty and right.”

The private news channel while citing sources claimed that the former first lady had requested a list of lawyers from Advocate Qazi Anwar, who, along with Mashaal Yousafzai, would report to her on legal matters.

Bibi has instructed Anwar to consult her before making final decisions on cases and has barred other lawyers from communicating messages to Khan, it alleged.

Furthermore, this week, the advocate briefed Khan’s wife on the issues and shortcomings faced by the legal leadership. The final consultations concerning changes among the lawyers’ officials in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were also conducted with her.

Bibi has reportedly resolved conflicts among lawyers and informed the PTI founder about such developments.
