The Palestinian Authority has temporarily suspended operations of Qatar’s Al Jazeera television, including its broadcasts, due to allegations of disseminating “inciting material,” according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA.

The decision was made jointly by the ministers of culture, interior, and communications, who criticized the channel for airing content deemed “deceiving and stirring strife.” While the order specifies that the suspension is temporary, it does not indicate an end date.

This action follows recent criticism from the Palestinian Authority regarding Al Jazeera’s reporting on the ongoing conflict between Palestinian security forces and militant fighters in the Jenin camp in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

In response, Al Jazeera condemned the decision as an attempt to hinder its reporting on escalating events in the occupied territories. The network has called on the Palestinian Authority to reverse the decision and allow its journalists to operate freely in the West Bank without fear of intimidation.

The suspension is not expected to affect operations in Gaza, where the Palestinian Authority does not hold power, as the area is controlled by Hamas. Fatah, the faction governing the Palestinian Authority, accused the broadcaster of sowing division in both “our Arab homeland in general and in Palestine in particular,” urging Palestinians to refrain from cooperating with the network.

Additionally, this is not the first time Al Jazeera has faced restrictions; the Israeli military raided its bureau in Ramallah in September and ordered it to shut down. Earlier in May, Israel issued an order prohibiting the channel from operating and broadcasting within the country, citing security threats, a ban that was later upheld by a court.
